the conformist

In the uneven silence of this film, there must be a secret, delayed grudge in the individual to the governmental authority who did not stop him from losing himself in its collectiveness. As usual, delay and grudge give way to a loudly bitter timing. The unlikely words of honesty come too late, after the fact of fear and violence. There are few movies that shook me by its level of mastery of the show of violated personhood.
